What Is the Typical Lifespan of Heelers? Blue Heeler Breeders Answer!

Before adopting Heeler puppies for sale, the question of "how long my heeler will live" naturally comes to mind. Heelers, aka Australian Cattle Dog, or ACD, is one of the most popular choices of herding dogs across Australia, the UK, and the USA.

The dog was bred in the late 19th century by the Australian settler craving an ideal dog that has strong work ethics and able to sustain the harsh Australian climate.  They crossbred a dingo with a collie and after a series of breeding and cross-breeding, they had bred a true herding dog that today we know as a Heeler.

Heelers are amazing dogs and fortunately, they have an amazing life span as well.

According to veterinary data and breed resources, the average lifespan for a Heeler is 13 – 15 years.

There are reports of Heelers living for 18 years, too.  This is really a very good lifespan for a dog; although no one wants to lose their dog, even if it has lived its full lifespan, but this is how nature works.

On average, you can expect your Heeler to live for 13-15 years.  If you properly take care of your Heeler and choose purebred Heeler puppies from Heeler breeders, your pet may live for longer as well.

Here are some things that you can do to ensure your Heeler reaches maturity

Proper nutrition: Heelers need a lot of protein to replenish their muscles and body.  Not just that, you need to ensure that your Heelers get other nutrients as well to boost their immunity.

Sufficient activity: Heelers will engage in activity but if you keep them active with proper exercise, they tend to live longer.

Timely medical care: make sure your Heeler gets timely medical care when facing any health issues.
